Well, here it is...The 7,000mi. $1,800 1200 Madura! It is up to 8,500mi now and I am in the process of aluminum polishing. After that, there isn't really anything else for me to do except ride. I am still trying to figure out the low rpm surging that was even mentioned in one of the origional road tests of this model. Ride safe, everyone!

I bought this bike brand new in the summer of 1985. Yes, it is a GV1200GL Madura. This bike is still an excellent bike for me.In 1985, I took my Madura for a long ride, from Edmonton, Alberta to the Maritimes. The ride was absolutely beautiful. This picture was taken in the summer of 1998. This shows that if you take care of your bike, it should last a long time. I hope to see more Madura around.

Great site! Even greater subject!
I live in northern Minnesota but in order to keep the junk mail down I would like to keep my home address confidential but here is my e-mail address:  jreis@mnpower.com
I have owned an 85 Madura 1200 since 1985 - new. It was my 12th bike and I enjoy it so much I have never looked for a replacement. I'm afraid I might wear it out so am looking for another just like it, also a Cavelcade would be nice, but I like the lighter weight of the Madura. Any bikes for sale in my area?
I customized it the way I think Suzuki should have! I rebadged it as the NOVA that Harley Davidson/Porche never built. Both my brothers ride stroked shovelheads, and my "NOVA" keeps up fine. It really makes those HD riders scratch they're heads!!?? It is modified with Harley full fenders, a light bar, my own designed "softtail hard leather bags, and bullit turn signals. I customized the fading paint with a tear-drop, but left the Suzuki "S" on the tank as a clue. There are no HD emblems and no Suzuki emblems, only 4 Nova Emblems.
As we say in icy Minnesota... " keep the rubber side down!"

I just purchased a 1985 Madura 1200cc, what a fun bike to ride. The gentleman I bought it from was in his fifties and didn't feel safe riding in this area anymore. The bike has 32,000 miles on it and is in mint condition. He kept a log on everything that was ever done to it, I even have the original bill of sale receipt.
Here are some new pictures of me and my bike if you want to post them. I have been doing a lot of riding in the Sierra Mountains here in northern California. The next time I go I will have to bring the camera take a few shots of the redwood trees. I have been contacted by quite a few of your visitors with technical questions. I was glad to be able to help them out. My wife recently got her motorcycle learners permit and has been riding the 1200 Madura, she loves it. Looks like we may be in the market for another one so I will have to keep my eye on your for sale page. Well, ride safe I have to go for now.

I found this sadly neglected Madura a few months back. It was in pretty tough shape. I am sure that it had never seen the inside of a garage in the last 13 years as the paint was completely faded and blistered off, whatever could get rusty was rusty and everthing else was in a likewise state. But you know the engine started and ran like a charm. After reading about the Madura's on this site I went ahead and bought it. I have spent the last couple of months restoring it and just recently took it on a tour through the B.C. Kootneys and through Montana. Never had a bit of trouble. Just to be a little different I had it painted Acura NSX Indy yellow pearl. Looks great.

This was "love at first bike!" I bought this one owner Madura from a retired police officer who gave it much TLC. I plan to do the same.

Here is a picture of me on my dream machine. I bought it Brand spankin' new in 1986, and had to sell it in 1990 for financial reasons (Women! I was breaking up with my girfriend at the time!)
Selling my Madura was the saddest thing I ever did in my whole life! I hope to buy another one as soon as I get some bucks together, but it will never be in the same excellent condition mine was in.
I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and have toured all over the Western part of Canada and the US with this bike. Feel free to post the picture...

I see the roster is climbing! I've got an '85 (aren't they ALL '85's??) GV700GL that I purchased last spring. She had been quite ill-treated over the past few years, so it did take a bit of cash to bring her back, but I'm real glad I did! The little woman and I put 6,000Km on her between July and October. I've had no trouble, save the occasional running out of gas because the warning light comes on when youre OUT of gas! (They DO like the gas!). I'm in the middle of a repaint of tank and side covers, (Black clearcoat, I hope) but I've attached a picture from last summer. Looking for one muffler and an exhaust collector for this year, or tips on repair of same if anyone can help. Also missing 'V-Four' badges from side covers... paint em' on? I dont know!

What a site! I thought I was the only living person that still had a Madura on the road! I bought my 700 back in 1990 off of the original owner for $1500. He wanted a touring bike so he purchased a Goldwing. The bike had 3000 miles on it and was (still is) mint. I've owned several bikes and this by far is the most comfortable I've had not to mention being a sleeper (looks can be deceiving). Other than being a bit of a pig in the fuel economy area I have no complaints. A friend of mine just bought a new Honda VFR 750 and with a couple of other friends we were ripping the turns on Highway 10 in Kentucky, he said he kept looking in the mirror to see how far back I was and shocked to find me picking bugs off of his rear license plate. No problem with keeping up with the crotch rockets other than a few side stand scraps when taking g-loaded left hand turns when the suspension is compressed. I'll never sell this bike and hope to pass it on to one of my sons when they get old enough to ride (so long as they continue to baby it).
