(8-7-01) Who says you can't love two women at the same time? This is my idea of the perfect threesome, me and my two favorite ladies. It was actually my wife Tweety's idea to introduce the second lady to our relationship. I had owned two Maduras before her, one was bought new in 85 and was a 700, I sold her to move up to the 1200 and found she liked it faster then I could handle at the time, so I had to let her go. After a few years of growing up I felt I was responsible enough to give it another try, so I searched for another Madura. I found this one in the local paper and we went to have a look at her. Personally I thought she was a bit too ugly for me but Tweety thought if I rubbed her the right way she would look ok. So I spent the winter with her in the basement of our house and with allot of rubbing and a bit of sweet talking she came out looking like a 17 year old hard body just waiting to be taken out on the town. This is one lady that will perform for you if you keep her serviced.

The best ride I have taken my lady's on was to Madura Mayhem in Arkansas this June, and we can't wait for next years get together.

(8-8-01) I bought my 1985 GV1200GL in 1999 from my brother-in-law. He had it in his garage collecting dust. I took it home, cleaned it up, and found I had a gem. I added Willie and Max saddle bags and a windshield. This Madura is the most comfortable (and powerful) cruiser I have ever owned. I take it to work every day, and on road trips every chance I get. There is no feeling like the wind in your face and the open road all around you! The picture here is in Alpine County, California, where the highways are wide with sweeping high speed turns. I have enjoyed every minute I spend on this bike, and plan to keep it for a long, long time. It now has 41,000 miles on it, and runs like a champ. It will keep up with anything else out there, and one of these days I am going to find a place (and the courage) to really open it up and see what it can do. I know its got potential when I can get 100 mph out of fourth gear.

(8-10-01) Yours truly, webmaster of this site, scored his second Madura V1200 recently (the red one) when I intercepted an ad posted to my website of a bike matching the qualifications I was looking for: Original owner, garaged its whole life, and less than 10,000 miles (it had only 6,000 original miles on it). I had it shipped via the Packaging Store (www.packstore.com, 1-800-525-6309 - ask for Annie) for $743. It was dropped off in front of my garage a week after pickup. The bike is in mint condition and required only an easy detailing to look like it was just put together out of the box... unlike my last Madura (see Page 2 for the story on my black one) which took well over 100 hours of elbow grease and $2000 of restoration - and it still didn't look nearly as new as this one is. I spent less to ship this one than I did to restore my other one!!!

(9-5-01) I bought a brand new GV700 in the summer of 85... what a fast bike, so fast in fact... I lost my licence and had to sell it. Ah to be young a stupid again. Last year a guy at work bought a cherry 84 Magna 1100. Well that lit the fire again and I started looking. I found this 1200 at the cycle trader online, it was in California. I flew down to Burbank paid him $2000.00 and rode it home (Eugene, OR) it had 37.000 miles on it. 41.000 now, and haven't had any trouble what so ever... I did just change the fork seals and the output shaft seal is need of changing, the top of the tank is a bit faded - other than that it's in pretty good shape.

(9-28-01) Bought this Madura on consignment at a nearby bike shop with 8,300 km on it in early August '02. I was attracted to it's overall appearance, style and 'nearly new' condition, and it came with the light bar, a set of new leather bags, a small windshield and new tires. The seat needs recovering which I'm thinking of remodeling, and it turned out to have a lot of little problems associated with it not having been driven much and consequently little ongoing maintenance. The most urgent of these have since been corrected and I've put over 3,000 km on it running here and there.

It's a pleasure to ride, and I really love it. However, I wanted a newer replacement for my GS650G which was starting to get a bit costly maintenance wise, as I'm on medical retirement with a poor income. My particular concern is the lack of available parts due to the limited number of them sold. The emotional side of me wants to keep it, and common sense tell me to sell it while it's still in collectors condition. What sets this bike apart is the gold trim. The headlight bracket, handlebar clamp, spokes and hubs are all factory original. Meanwhile the klicks keep mounting! Over the long term I'm looking towards a new Intruder, provided I live long enough. LOL

Meanwhile, I want to thank the creator of this web site for doing this. I belong to a couple of other discussion groups and nothing compares to this. Truly excellent!

(12-7-01) Although the photo isn't to great, here is my true sweetheart. I bought her from a guy in Wichita Falls, Texas, that said he was afraid of it, because it had too much power. Just don't understand the concept of too much power. Anyway, I bought her in June of '01, and she had a little over 24K on the clock. It's now December and she has 46K on the clock, and seems to run better all the time. I ride this bike everywhere, and the wife goes with me on every dinner run, poker run and any other kind of run we can find to get into.

The only thing bad about the bike is, the guys on Harleys that ride in our group, won't let us play in their races any more. As soon as I get the chance to scan some more photos, I'll post some showing the forward controls I built, and the exhaust mods. Still have a lot of rubbing and polishing to do, but winter ain't over yet.

(2-19-01) I have three Maduras (two 1165s and one 699). My major ride, the Big Chief has over 100k on the clock. The Dragonbike (featured in the Feb. 2002 RIDER magazine Retrospective) was purchased originally as a backup for the Big Chief if his drive train ever grew tired. But the bikes are so powerful that ordinary touring, commuting and cruising use can never overtax the bikes with the result that they will run forever - or nearly so. My 699 "little Madura" was purchased originally brand new in '85 when the motorcycle market was very flat. I got it at dealer's cost. Although I have a number of other machines that I own and operate (I am a full time motorcyclist - that's all I do) the Madura, in my opinion is the most user/ maintenance friendly motorcycle produced by any manufacturer. And because of the totally understressed engine it is reliable beyond expectations.
