THE
SUPERVISORY DEVELOPMENT
INSTITUTE
We believe that the best training starts on the ground -- that the job dictates the training needs.

The SDI began with that foundation. Developed by a group of Chicago area manufacturers in 1984, the program has graduated over 6,000 supervisors.

Skills, not theories.
Grounded in solid, pragmatic experience, the SDI sequence focuses on skills that employees can take back to the job immediately, to make immediate differences in getting the job done. Practical application of skills is part of the process -- with participants regularly reporting on-the-job results in the classroom as the training progresses. It is an interactive, skill-building experience.

Hands-on and interactive.
The program is not lecture-based. It is a collaborative, adult learning environment, with heavy emphasis on peer learning and participation in hands-on exercises. Participants' real, on-the-job, situations are used throughout the program as a basis for instruction.

Who are the instructors?
NIBA training professionals are experienced facilitators selected for their knowledge of management skills and, in particular, for their ability to involve participants and generate enthusiasm and commitment to the training.

They have long experience with the SDI program, and have worked closely with senior management at area companies in developing customized, on-site programs.

Who should attend?
Anyone who directly supervises the work of others. This includes newly appointed supervisors and experienced participants who have carried supervisory responsibility for years.

Many companies send people targeted for promotion, and more than a few managers of supervisory staff have attended. The program has been condensed and offered to senior management levels -- both as an information tool (to understand what their employees are learning) and to sharpen their own management skills.

What are the goals?
Simple. The program seeks to build leadership and increase productivity.

The first step to getting the job done is to motivate other people to get their jobs done. We never lose sight of the ends--to make Northern Illinois businesses more productive.

What do graduates get?
Apart from a new perspective and a comprehensive knowledge of supervisory techniques--what works and what doesn't -- all graduates are awarded a Professional Master Supervisory Certificate that carries CEU credits and a comprehensive workbook that can be used as a reference on the job.

HAVE IT YOUR WAY
On-site, Customized Supervisory Training
Two out of three NIBA members are choosing to have the SDI brought to them -- taught on-site at their facility, with a curriculum that's custom-made to meet their needs.

NIBA trainers meet with senior management to develop a program that uses company materials and focuses on company issues.

Take advantage of this option to ensure that the training your employees receive fits them... and that it meets your needs, from the selection of topics to the format, schedule, location and costs.

Don't take our word for it.
We'll be happy to put you in touch with some satisfied users, members who can tell you about their experience with the SDI program. Give us a call. We can even arrange to have you sit in on a class or two, to meet some of the facilitators and get an up-close, personal look at what we can do.

NIBA...it's like having your own training department.
